One of the most common questions we get on a daily basis from our potential backers is, “How strong is it?”
We don’t blame you! Ahead is made to be used on the road and although small, compact and un-invasive, you want to be sure that it will be able to withstand any elements, drops and accidents. At the end of the day, it should be as strong as your helmet right?
To answer your questions, we put Ahead from a gruelling 3-stage hardware test, to see how much it can actually withstand. Here are the results!
Water and Dust Proof
One of the biggest elements when commuting outdoors, is the exposure to rain, snow and dust. The last thing you want to have whilst riding around or tearing up the half pipe is for your Ahead Unit to malfunction due to rain. This is why Ahead is manufactured with an IP45 Water and Dust Proof rating. This rating means Ahead will be able to withstand “low pressure jets of water from all directions.”
Drop Test
We tested the durability of Ahead when being dropped from different heights to see if it is able to withstand a fall and still function. Starting from a lowly 1m drop test, we eventually worked ourselves to a 5m drop, where Ahead was still able to function without any hiccups!
Crush Test
We wanted to see how much weight Ahead could handle before breaking and smashing into a million pieces. Accidents on the road happen and we wanted to make sure Ahead could withstand any accidents along the way. We started off with a simply stepping on the unit. We then drove over it with a bicycle, and finally ending with the grand crush test, a BMW X3 with two fully grown adults, totalling over 2000kgs. Ahead was still able to function with no problems after the crush test, giving us confidence that it is indeed, Indestructible.
